Vision 20/20
An eye exam will show any abnormal arterial growth that will threaten one's eyesight. Lenses are used to re-focus light to land where it is supposed, correcting this error of refraction.
The purpose of an eye examination is to check the visual acuity for each eye. When you read an eye chart at the doctor's office, your ability to read small letters or numbers on the chart is referred to as visual acuity. The doctor will record your visual acuity for each eye. The first number refers to the testing distance from your eyes to the chart. The second number refers to the size of the smallest line you can read. Few people can read 20-15 or better. The average good vision is 20-20. In other words, if you can see this object clearly at 20 feet, but a person with normal vision can see it from 40 feet, then vision in that eye is 20-40. If that object can be seen at 60 feet, then vision is 20-60, and so on. The doctor may prescribe glasses or contact lenses to compensate for any lack of visual acuity. These will help refract the light more accurately so the image is focused upon the retina and the patient will see clearly.
