Dr. Deborah Benzil earned her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1985 after graduating Phi Beta Kappa from Brown University with departmental honors. Her post-graduate training included research in surgical neurology at the National Institutes of Health as well as a general surgery internship and neurological residency/research fellowship at Rhode Island Hospital, where she was Chief Resident in her final year.

Dr. Benzil is an attending neurosurgeon at Lawrence Hospital Center in Bronxville, Community Hospital of Dobbs Ferry in Dobbs Ferry, White Plains Hospital Center in White Plains, Northern Westchester Hospital Center in Mount Kisco, and St. John's Riverside in Yonkers. She also co-directed the Westchester Center for Radiosurgery and the Westchester Peripheral Nerve Treatment Center where she was formerly the Chief of Neuro-Oncology at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY. She has been a professor at New York Medical College for over 10 years in the departments of Neurosurgery/Clinical Neurosurgery and Cell Biology & Anatomy.

Dr. Benzil has published over 15 articles, 20 abstracts and a book chapter, delivered more than 50 presentations, and participated in dozens of other educational activities in the field. She has won numerous fellowships, awards and grants and has been active on committees for many hospitals, medical schools, and regional and national associations, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Hudson Valley Regional Trauma Committee, New York Medical College and Westchester Medical Center.
